Professional Feed - Vulnerabilities

While home users can access a limited vulnerability feed at no cost, commercial organizations which use the Nessus vulnerability scanner must purchase a ProfessionalFeed subscription to scan their network, obtain support, download updates to their database of vulnerability checks and access compliance auditing templates.

As information about new vulnerabilities are discovered and released into the general public domain, Tenable's research staff designs programs to enable Nessus to detect the presence of them. These programs are named "plugins". They contain vulnerability information, a generic set of remediation actions, and the algorithm to test for the presence of the security issue. Typically, Tenable Network Security, Inc. produces plugins for vulnerabilities within 24 hours of its public release.

The Professional feed also provides access to a Nessus Virtual Appliance - a download of a Nessus 3 VMware Virtual Appliance, which works with VMware ESX, Server, Workstation and Fusion.

Access to operational and technical assistance from experienced support staff with regards to the deployment and use of their scanners, as well as the writing of audit policies for the compliance checks or content checks is also availble

Note for SC3 Security Centre users - the Professional Feed is included in the SC3 Annual Support and Maintenance fee. This feed it automatically download and distributed to all attached Nessus scanners.

Professional Feed subscriptions can also be purchased from TelcoSI.
